A major extension is underway at Century Complex in Letterkenny to deliver even more state-of-the-art entertainment for everyone – from toddlers to grandparents!
Up to 25 new jobs will be created in the blockbuster expansion, which will include an even larger indoor soft play centre, indoor crazy golf and two mystery activities that are being kept under wraps for now.
Century Complex has always been the ultimate family destination, offering fun for ages 0 to 90 across the 8-screen Cinema, Backstage Bar & Grill, Bida’s Bar and Century Play. This time, teens and young adults get a special treat with new arcade games and exciting extras for them to while away the hours.
Owner Mark Doherty is excited to bring the business to a whole new level in 2024. The complex, when complete, will stretch across 85,000ft – not including the cinema.
“I love to see the business grow. I get an adrenaline rush from putting plans in motion and seeing them take off. It’s always a great buzz,” he tells Donegal Daily.
“Century Play is currently the second biggest kids playframe in Ireland and by the time this renovation is finished we believe it will be the biggest indoor soft play in Ireland.”
Good things come to those who wait, and while Century Play will be closed for a period, it will reopen bigger and better in the new space in June. The rest of the activities are scheduled to be completed by October.
Century Complex is actively recruiting to accommodate its growth, aiming to expand its team from 95 up to 120 employees.
Mark’s vision extends beyond mere entertainment. He aims to create a place full of fun and ‘buzz’ where families and friends connect, make memories, and enjoy quality time together.
“I always say that Century Play is incredibly noisy but it’s a happy noise, it’s just people having a good time, it’s kids squealing and adults chatting,” he said.
“At Century Complex you can realistically spend the entire day here, making those memories with the kids as they grow up.
“I would like to see that continue and expand where people meet and have a bit of banter and competition and spend time with one another.”
The Letterkenny cinema is a cherished element of the town that is nearing a century in business. It originally opened in 1935 on the Port Road, before moving down to Leckview Lane in 2001. The recent addition of premium screens last year further elevates the movie-going experience.
The excitement of seeing a film on the big screen remains a treat, says Mark
“Our goal is to give you something to look forward to going to. Going to the cinema is a night out, and nearly an excuse to get the glad rags on, have fun and relax in a nice environment.”
Mark said the investment will also create another valuable attraction for Letterkenny locals and visitors alike.
“Letterkenny is one of those towns that draw people from all over the country, and the town couldn’t exist without that support. We are all one big community and we believe in giving back too,” he said.
Century Complex is a proud sponsor of the Donegal Underage League 2010 squad, the North West 10k and various other local club activities.
Mark adds: “We wouldn’t be here without the community and it’s their support that allows us to plan out these mad notions we are doing at the minute!”
