A man is to appear at a special court sitting this evening charged in relation to the attempted arson and vandalism of a church and two halls in east Donegal.
“A man, in his 20s, arrested in connection with this investigation, has been charged and is scheduled to appear before a special sitting of Letterkenny District Court at 7:30 p.m. this evening,” a garda spokesperson said.
At approximately 9.45pm last night, Gardaí received reports of criminal damage to a property in St. Johnston. A second report of criminal damage occurred later in the night and Gardaí conducted a search of the area. A man was arrested a short distance from the scene. It is believed the local Catholic church was attacked as well as a Masonic Hall and Orange Hall.
Gardaí in Letterkenny added they are investigating all the circumstances in relation to a number of incidents of attempted arson and criminal damage to properties in St. Johnston on the night in question.
