Finn Harps have confirmed its club shop at Finn Park will not close and will be combined with its online presence as a ‘ joint retail operation’.
They released a ‘clarification’ this afternoon following reports from volunteers that the Ballybofey & Stranorlar Supporters Club shop would shut its doors for the last time on Friday.
The ‘big blue container’, which sells club merchandise on the Lidl side of the ground, has been a staple at Finn Park for more than 25 years and has raised over €100,000 for the Ballybofey outfit during that time.
“Finn Harps can confirm that the club plans to combine the shop within Finn Park and the online shop into a joint retail operation so we can offer supporters a better service,” a club spokesperson said.
“This is necessary so that both will carry the same products, because our kit supplier will now only accept orders from the club itself, and also so that those fans that buy online can exchange items when necessary at Finn Park.”
The club also confirmed that no one was ‘asked to step away’ and it was made clear that the continued involvement of volunteers would be more than welcome.
“We thank them for the huge contribution they have made to Finn Harps,” they added.
“There is no plan, nor has there ever been, to move to online sales only. The intention is to expand the opening hours (of the Finn Park shop) and also to explore opportunities to make Harps merchandise available around the northwest.”
These plans, that spokesperson added, were communicated to the supporters club at a meeting over a year ago.
“It was discussed again at the AGM and emails have been sent since then making all the above clear.”
