Former RTE broadcaster Ciaran Mulloolly is tipped to run in the European Elections, according to reports.
Speculation has surfaced over the former Midlands correspondent being on the ticket for the new Independent Ireland party.
A native of Longford, he would be running in the Midlands-Northwest constituency which covers Donegal.
Mullooly retired from RTÉ in 2021 after 27 years of news broadcasting. Since then, he has worked in community development and tourism in Roscommon and Longford.
Mullooly has today commented on social media that he is aware of media reports on his possible candidacy, but is attending a funeral today and will issue a response at a more appropriate time.
