Seamus Coleman turned back the clock to put in a man of the match performance against Switzerland at the Aviva Stadium tonight.
The Killybegs man and Everton star may be on the wrong side of 35.
But his never say die attitude once again gained him many admirers tonight.
Under former Republic of Ireland star John O’Shea, the Boys in Green lost the game thanks to a goal from a dubious free-kick.
But Coleman was delighted to just to be picked by O’Shea and said after the game he was delighted to be able to pay back that trust but in him by the ex-Man Utd star.
Coleman said he was pleased by his team’s efforts.
“I think it took a while for us to get to grips with them in the first half. When we got instructions we got a bit braver and pressed a bit more and a bit more organised, we were on top.
“We were lucky not to score; I can’t remember them creating too much apart from the free-kick.
“We penned them in for quite a bit of the game in my opinion.
“It felt comfortable in the second half; we just need to find a way to score goals.”
